BLACK PANTHER MURAL FOR MULTI STORIES CHAPTER 3
I was invited to paint a mural for Multi Stories Chapter 3, Southampton’s largest street art event, at Westquay shopping centre, where the the multi-storey car park is transformed into a bold and vibrant urban art gallery.
My painting is about the complex interconnectivity of our natural world and its delicate ecosystems. It’s also loosely inspired by a Native American legend that I came across in my research called “The Fire and the Hummingbird.” A story of a hummingbird who singlehandedly flies back and forth to scoop up water and put out a forest fire. A jaguar watches on bewildered but is eventually inspired to help out and extinguish the fire. I liked the message in this story, about the importance of taking action, regardless of your size or perceived power. The black jaguar, often used to depict courage as well as death and rebirth, represents the idea of being able to come back, recover and grow stronger, offering some hope in the current dark times for our climate.
The last picture features my lovely wall neighbours @rachaelpresky and @zaki_dee who were creating some amazing pieces!
